Dragana Palavestra was born in Šid in 1956. In
1974 she finished the fourth grade of high school in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. In 1980 Ms Pavalestra graduated from the
Faculty of Philosophy, the Department of Art History,
where she started her postgraduate studies in 1981.
She started working as curator in the Association of
Visual and Applied Artists and Designer of Serbia in 1984.
She was also the general manager of the Gallery ?Singidunum?
for several years. Her primary field of work in the AVAADS
was: to organize ?May Exhibition?, an international illustration
exhibition ?Belgrade Golden Pen? as well as exhibitions
of foreign artists held in the country and ones of local
artists held abroad.
Ms Palavestra wrote a great number of introductory texts
for solo and group exhibitions. She was one of the selectors
at October Salon twice (the domain of applied art). In
2000 she was the art director of this event. Ms Palavestra
conceptualized a number of exhibitions (for example, tMy
North American ExperiencesT, an exhibition of illustrations
and cartoons by Dušan Petricic; an accompanying exhibition
at 38th October Salon in 1997), took part in various international
symposiums (Illustration Biennial Bratislava in 2001)
as well as in the work of VI International Art Colony
tZlakusa 2001 UžiceT.
She is a member of the Art Council of International Miniature
Biennial Gornji Milanovac and a member of the Council
of October Salon at the moment. Since April 2003 Ms Palavestra
has been working as an independent visual and applied
art expert in the Secretariat of Culture in the City Assembly
of Belgrade.
