In his videos and installations, Mircea Cantor deploys feints to address displacements on a wider scale. The silent film Deeparture shows a wolf and a deer inhabiting an empty gallery space together. The strangeness of seeing these two wild animals in close proximity to one another in such an unnatural space is heightened by the fact that whilst the wolf stalks the deer, he never attacks. The staging of an animal version of surveillance creates an uneasy, unresolved atmosphere of paranoia and potential danger.
