When you grow up, the Balkans can become a source of inspiration and a kind of positive obsession. That is how a number of cycles of drawings/collages/assemblages have been created in connection with the Balkans. Maria Todorova has written: “I love the Balkans without the need to be either proud or ashamed of the area.” You have to grow up in order to be able to compare the American way of life and the world of the Balkans (which exists as a chance for enlightened romanticism).
